Magnet Schools Application Period is Currently Open

The Magnet Schools application period for the 2018-2019 school year is from October 1st, 2017 until January 15th, 2018. Parents will be notified on or by March 15, 2018 as to their application results.

Please Note: Select schools with limited seats still available are still accepting applications on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please check with the individual schools for entrance requirements and availability.

Miami Central Senior High School has three magnet academies. Below is a description of each.

Academy of Information Technology The Academy of Information Technology prepares students for career opportunities in programming, database administration, web design and administration, digital networks, and other areas in the expanding digital workplace. In addition, Juniper Networks has agreed upon a program of study, linked to NAF assessments, that will qualify students for its professional training program and earn a Industrial Certificate. Academies may also use computer science curriculum from Cengage and Project Lead the Way, Inc. (PLTW) and select courses from Cisco.

Academy of Finance- The King Carter Global Trade and Logistics Magnet Program The Academy of Finance connects high school students with the world of financial services and personal finance, offering a curriculum that covers supply chain management, banking and credit, financial planning, global finance, securities, insurance, accounting, and economics. The Academy of Finance curriculum and certification is validated by the Council for Economic Education.

Academy of Engineering The Academy of Engineering answers an acute need for engineers in this country by educating high school students in the principles of engineering, and providing content in the fields of electronics, biotech, aerospace, civil engineering, and architecture. Academies use curriculum from Autodesk-Inventor, Project Lead The Way, Inc. (PLTW), The STEM Academy, or Paxton/Patterson. They also benefit from support provided by National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME).

In order to be accepted into an Academy, an interested student at the ninth grade level needs to do the following:

A. Submit an application,
B. Meet several admission requirements (academic, attendance, attitude)
C. Have parental consent.


A minimum of 2.0 Grade Point Average in core academic subject areas (e.g. language arts, mathematics, science, social studies) and in conduct.
• All effort grades in core academic classes must be a “2” or higher.
• No more than 10 unexcused absences will be allowed for previous year.
